The Importance of Water Safety

National Wellness Month takes place in the month of August. During this time, we’re able to reflect on the aspects of our lives that help to keep us safe and healthy.

While there are many things that are vital to our health and safety (clean air, vehicle safety features, healthy food) we are going to focus on clean water safety for today’s article.

Water is such an essential ingredient to our health and well-being that everyone should be aware of how to remain safe and healthy with its use and any potential problems that unsafe water circumstances can cause.

The Importance of Modern Day Plumbing Services

plumbingservicesModern plumbing services have enabled us to have fast, convenient, and clean water for drinking, cooking, and bathing.

Things used to be pretty different before modern plumbing; collecting and disposing of water could turn into an all-day process.

Dirty water disposal was also more difficult and could be more unsanitary. which was the cause behind many diseases of the time.

Water Filters are Vital to Safe and Clean Water

While plumbing is a crucial and important development in our access to clean and safe water, water filtering is also vital to the process. While there are many small filtering processes that we run our water through for drinking and showering - such as water pitcher filters, showerhead filters, faucet filters, and under the sink filters - we also have various other filters we use to filter within our home. Here are a few of the most common ones:

  • waterfiltersReverse Osmosis Filter - Pollutants are flushed through small pores, leaving clean water.
  • Ceramic Filter - Silver treated ceramic screen out mold and algae.
  • Activated Carbon Filter - Carbon in charcoal traps mold and mildew in its pores.
  • Activated Alumina Filter - Aluminum oxide removes arsenic, fluoride, and selenium from the water.
  • Ultraviolet Filter - Living microorganisms in the water are killed by UV light.

Preventing Harm from Water Leaks

waterleaksWhile there are many safety hazards that can present through water, such as drinking dirty water and drowning, those aren’t the only problems!

In fact, water leaks themselves can cause a whole array of problems such as structural damage, mold, and mildew. The mold and mildew potential can be especially hazardous because it can cause a variety of serious health problems that can last long-term.

Structural damage to a home can also potentially lead to unsafe and unsteady living conditions, such as floor or roof collapse. Water is a powerful thing. It has a huge impact on our day-to-day lives and health.

It’s important that we drink clean and filtered water, that we keep our plumbing in good shape within our homes, and that we pay attention to things like water leaks so they don’t lead to further damage or health problems. For this National Wellness Month, make sure you’re on top of all aspects of your water safety.
